Cinder and the crew are running out of time. They have a plan to stop the evil Lunar queen, but it’s a desperate one. Little do they realize the greatest ally to their rebel cause just may be the stepdaughter of Queen Levana herself.

Princess Winter is admired by her people for her grace and kindness, and, despite the scars on her face, she’s said to be even more beautiful than her stepmother.

It’s a dangerous rumor, one that could get Winter killed. As Winter’s guard and her childhood best friend, Jacin’s only goal is keeping Winter safe. But how can Jacin protect her when the Lunar queen is always watching?

Levana is stronger than ever, and if Winter and Jacin have any hopes of a future, they will have to join forces with Princess Selene to launch a revolution and end a war that’s been decades in the making.

Winter, the final book in The Lunar Chronicles, which began with Cinder, brings the series to a dramatic finish. Even for an avid reader and a fan of the series, I found the size of this book daunting. Meyer writes strong characters, though, so despite the number of point-of-view switches, the story never seemed to drag. There’s more violence, more death, more blood, more danger, and more daring plans than in the previous books, which leads to an action-packed ending that makes this a series well worth the read and left me aching for more.

Rated: Mild. For a few uses of mild language. There is more violence, more death, and more persecution from Levana — the sheer amount bordering on a moderate rating — but it is tastefully done, portraying the high stakes without too many gruesome details. Couples kiss.
