Natalie Hart has always been loud, unfiltered, and unapologetically herself. That is, until freshman year of college, when she lost her merit scholarship and gained an anxiety diagnosis.

Hesitant to take out more student loans, Natalie takes a long shot and applies to Wild Adventures, a popular outdoorsy reality show. Her friends think she’s crazy. True, she may not be an outdoorsy girl and prefers her 12-step skincare routine to roughing it on the Appalachian Trail, but that scholarship prize money might be her last chance at fulfilling future dreams. She’s not going down without a fight.

There’s just one problem: Finn Markum, her randomly assigned, born-outdoorsman partner. Natalie and Finn couldn’t be more different. Maybe she doesn’t have a lot of survival skills, but at least she’s enthusiastic about the game. Meanwhile, his icy exterior and one-word responses are only adding to their team’s friction. If they can’t work together and learn to understand each other’s differences, they’ll have no hope of surviving the next challenge, much less winning the entire competition.

Any fans of the great outdoors, hiking, or reality shows like The Amazing Race are sure to enjoy Wild About You. It’s the perfect atmospheric summer read with a lot of heart and sweet, easy-to-love characters.

Natalie is both funny and relatable, trying to maintain a positive attitude while also struggling with her anxiety. I found the anxiety representation to be well thought-out and written. Despite her struggles with a recent loss and trouble with overthinking scenarios, Natalie still manages to confront her fears and find a way to smile.

Overall, Wild About You keeps a good balance of lightheartedness while also confronting deeper topics that may emotionally resonate with a lot of readers.
