The journal entries in this volume of Emma M. Lion’s continuing witty and wry observations of life in her corner of London go from early July to end of August. Herein, the inhabitants of St. Crispian’s are looking for clues that will lead to securing tickets for the neighborhood performance of Julius Caesar, the exact time and location of which changes every year.
Of course, at the same time, Emma is still being engaged by her aunt to help her cousin at various important events, with the goal of Arabella making the best possible marriage match. Aunt Eugenia has a number of exacting expectations for each outing and generally does not shower her niece with praise or thanks.
In volume 3, cousin Archibald breaks a leg (not in the theatrical sense), thus ensuring he cannot enjoy the theatrical scene, as he had so hoped to do. He thereby becomes a great strain on Emma and the other inhabitants of Lapis Lazuli House.
Emma continues to develop a good friendship with the Tenant, he who is renting Lapis Lazuli Minor. She also has a number of opportunities to chat with the Duke of Islington. Each of these makes me wonder how her own romantic future may look.
Each of these books just gets more fun. On to the next!
Rated: Mild. Profanity includes occasional mild language and several uses of British (bl-) profanity.
