A Secret Kept takes place in France, where Antoine Rey and his sister, Mélanie, revisit an old seaside family vacation spot on Noirmoutier Island. Returning to the island brings back family secrets that Melanie has been trying to forget. As family secrets become unraveled there is an underlining story of their mother’s lesbian romance. Antoine tries to distract himself from his troubles with a provocative relationship of his own.

I was excited to read this book because I was such a fan of Sarah’s Key. However, other than being set in France, this book bears no resemblance to that book. The sexual exploits, both hetero and homosexual, were too much and I never finished. Wow, this book is not like Sarah’s Key at all.
