This is a book written for the 10-year-old that resides inside all adults. This book satisfies like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter’s night: smooth, creamy, and safe. The story leads the reader from the safe arms of a family to normal adulthood without being schmaltzy.
On another level, this book explores family relationships, motives, pride, anger, love, hate, and religion — quite an accomplishment for one book, but Enger manages it with ease.
Rated: None. I don’t remember one bad word in the book. There is no sex. The violence is very mild. I recommend this book for any serious reader above the age of 12. It would be a great book for a family to read and discuss.

I disagree with this rating. The daughter is molested! That definitely should make it mild.
The details of the molestation are not discussed in the book. That it happened effects the telling of this beautifully written story. The author is a true wordsmith! This is one of my favorite books. I absolutely loved it.
