Maddie has become used to the solitary life with her father. Sure, she’s lonely, but at least there are no friends to betray her, and it’s quiet — until Logan is sent to join them.
But Maddie isn’t the girl she used to be. She’s older and stronger, and this time, despite the letters, she has nothing to say to Logan. Yet when their outpost is attacked and Logan is kidnapped, Maddie knows it’s up to her to rescue him. Even if she can manage to thwart their foe and get Logan free, will they be able to survive the Alaskan wilderness?
Not If I Save You First is a fast-paced survival story, mixed with classic Ally Carter political action, romance, and a touch of mystery and humor. While there are some unrealistic moments and a character I found annoying on occasion, it was the perfect wintry escape read.
Rated: Mild. Violence plays a large part in the plot, including kidnapping, attempted murder, shootings, and blood. A boy accidentally walks in on a girl taking a bath and is clearly embarrassed, but no descriptions are given. There is also kissing. One kiss in particular is more intense, mentioning tongue in context to a key being transferred between the two characters.
