OK, this brief entry in the Daughter of Montague series is simply an opportunity to spend more time with the entertaining Rosie, daughter of Romeo and Juliet, and the whole set of characters. At Christmastime. Sure, there’s a bit of a plot and some things happen, but not a ton.

Namely, Rosie is gearing up for her quickly approaching wedding to the Prince of Verona, Escalus the Younger. She’s making peace with it and slowly coming to appreciate him as she learns more about him and his character. And that he definitely wants her. In the Romeo-and-Juliet way.

Rosie and Escalus go to Verona’s market to show what good leaders they will be as a team. All is well until a Roma woman tells Rosie her fortune, and some of it is … strange.

Not long after, as the family is settling in to enjoy a holiday meal, a fire at the city’s orphanage breaks out, and all of Verona work together to battle it and take care of the children and staff.

We get to enjoy a bit more of Escalus’s entertaining grandmother (Rosie likes her, as isn’t surprising given their common feistiness) and one of her old friends. And then we part, until the story picks up again in the third full book of the series, Teach the Torches to Burn, coming soon.

Rated: Moderate. Profanity includes one instance of moderate profanity, a use of mild language, and two instances of the name of Deity in vain. There are a number of instances of talk about sex and innuendo.
