Of course it was impossible to resist the premise of Most Ardently Yours: Mr. Darcy leaps out of the pages of Pride and Prejudice and an adoring fan gets to spend time with him. The novel did fairly well executing the premise, but I didn’t ardently love it.
When Zoe Knight happens upon a London bookstore and finds herself arguing with the male owner about whether romance novels are worthy, she ends up dashing out — with a “liberated” stray volume of Pride and Prejudice she happened to find on a shelf. It was weird that an old copy was in there because the store doesn’t sell romance novels, period.
After reading it for a while to soothe her troubled heart, Zoe is shocked to find that somehow she read Mr. Darcy out of the novel and into her real life. Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of her most beloved book boyfriends, and now she gets him to herself.
Naturally, things don’t go smoothly. Is there chemistry between her and the man she’s loved for years? Can he even stay? Will it affect the book?
And of course, she’s going to need to involve Nick, the bookstore owner, again. Ugh. But he is handsome… and gosh darn it, there’s chemistry.
Most Ardently Yours is fun and light reading, a great escape book. It just doesn’t flow perfectly; at times it feels clunky, and either predictable or weirdly not-predictable. Not perfect but fun.
Rated: High. Profanity includes 14 uses of strong language, around 70 instances of moderate profanity, about 45 uses of mild language, and 50 instances of the name of Deity in vain. Sexual content includes kissing, brief nudity, and intense kissing that progresses to touching of body parts, a bit more detail, then closed door.
