When Delphie eats a microwave hamburger, she is dismayed to find herself choking. And then even more dismayed to find herself not choking anymore… because she died. She ends up in a waiting room in the afterlife, where she has a really great interaction with a good-looking guy. Maybe the afterlife is looking pretty good. But then someone comes in and says there’s been a mistake and the guy is going back to Earth. No! She finally connected with someone and now she’s dead and the guy is not.
The quirky woman who is handling Delphie’s afterlife orientation strikes a deal with her: she’ll send Delphie back to life for 10 days, so she can find the man who just may be her soulmate. If she can get him to kiss her before that time is up, she can stay alive. If not, she’s coming right back to the afterlife. For good.
It’s a pretty great offer, so Delphie takes it and is eager to get down to business. But how in the world does she find this man with the little she knows about him, in London? She’s going to have to be very resourceful.
Delphie keeps running into the annoying downstairs neighbor who’s always been rude to her. Cooper is good-looking, sure, but arggggghh, is he difficult. As it turns out, though, he may have some useful ways to help her in her soulmate search.
These 10 days turn out to be brief, but so packed full of life—life Delphie has largely not been living very fully. It’s going to be even harder to face the afterlife.
The Love of My Afterlife is definitely a romance but it’s also a feel-good story about a young woman who is finally letting the world in, taking baby steps and then bigger steps to get outside herself. She’s been dealt some bad cards and hasn’t known how to move past them. It’s always a treat to see characters find greater happiness and satisfaction in their lives. This is true of this book as well. Just about perfect except for the content.
