Laura works for a “lifestyle platform” (read: website) in London that covers beauty products, travel and people’s real-life love stories. She regularly interviews giddily happy couples about how they met. But she has yet to experience a perfect meet-cute or an earth-shattering love herself. Her parents had that kind of love… but her father died when she was very young and her mother died recently. When she runs out of ideas to pitch to her demanding boss, Laura decides to write about her parents’ love story, originating in the Channel Islands.

When she arrives at her hotel in Jersey, she is initially dismayed to find out she picked up the wrong suitcase — but its contents indicate that its owner has to be her dream man. This mixup must be fated to be the start of her own perfect love story. But she has to find the owner of the suitcase, and it proves harder than she thinks.

Meanwhile, she hires gruff (and very beard-y) cab driver Ted to help her get around Jersey and retrace her parents’ footsteps, using old photographs and stories her mother told her.

Naturally, things don’t go quite as Laura had expected, and she discovers not just that her origin story isn’t quite what she thought, but that the perfect man for her isn’t necessarily who she had imagined.

Just Haven’t Met You Yet is a charming and sweet romance book, with enjoyable characters who have great chemistry. The bonus: it’s a fun getaway to the delightful island of Jersey, so it’s wonderful for armchair travel.

I’m now going to read Cousens’ previous book, This Time Next Year.

Rated: High. Profanity includes 8 uses of strong language (7 of which are in one section in two quick humorous strings), about five instances of moderate profanity, around 20 uses of mild language, and 2 instances of the name of Deity in vain. There are also about 9 instances of British profanity (bl-). Sexual content is moderate; there are some kissing scenes, and one sex scene with a bit of detail but not a lot.
