I shared a reel on TikTok and Instagram last week about how I’ve been struggling a bit with keeping this amazing website funded. I’ve paid all of its costs for 18 years, and they’ve been SUBSTANTIAL. And I’ve done a lot the past few years to try to generate some small income to at the minimum pay for those costs. But they have yet to accomplish my goal of the site being self-sustaining. I cannot bear the thought of shutting it down because I know many of you find it very helpful. Most readers don’t care about content of their books, and that’s OK.
But some of us do care about profanity, sexual content, violence, and other undesirable “stuff” in books (and all media, for that matter — but all the other media out there have ratings!). We would prefer what we read to be free of those things (or mostly free) or at least to have information about a book’s content so we can decide just what level of that stuff we’re willing to read.
If you want to read clean books or at least be informed before you read a book, please consider helping me to defray the continuing (and rising) costs of maintaining Rated Reads.
