Olivia Owens had a posh lifestyle as the only daughter of a wealthy, celebrity podcast producer. But when her mother divorced her dad, he kicked them both out with very little support. The past few years have been hard, particularly for Olivia to watch her mom go through some difficult things.

Now, her dad is getting married for a third time in a huge ceremony on the grounds of her former home. And Olivia is going to take advantage of the event, and her invitation to it, to steal millions of dollars from her father.

Olivia plans her heist for weeks, inviting several other teens, as well as a former teacher, to help her. While she’s nervous, she feels good about her plan. But when the day comes, of course, unanticipated factors keep interfering—like her ex-boyfriend, who’s trying to understand why they broke up; snobbish and scheming European cousins; her dad’s second wife; and a super-annoying teen whose dad is her father’s lawyer. Will she be able to pull it all off? And what will she learn in the process?

Heiress Takes All is entertaining, a light and fun heist story, which I generally enjoy. The elements all worked here, except I had a hard time believing that her wealthy dad wasn’t forced to provide hefty child support payments. It just didn’t compute. Given the whole story hinges on Olivia and her mom being in dire straits, that one detail did make it hard for me to suspend belief, as one needs to in this type of book. Even so, if you’re looking for a YA heist, this will scratch that itch.
