In a scarred and brutal future, The United Commonwealth teeters on the brink of all-out civil war. The rebel resistance plots against a government that rules with cruelty and cunning. Gifted student and Testing survivor Cia Vale vows to fight. But she can’t do it alone. This is the chance to lead that Cia has trained for — but who will follow? Plunging through layers of danger and deception, Cia must risk the lives of those she loves — and gamble on the loyalty of her lethal classmates.
I liked Graduation Day more than the second book in the series (Independent Study), but not quite as much as the original (The Testing). It has an exciting plot like the first book, and the ending is very satisfying. There are still some things I didn’t like as much, though: the main character seems inconsistent, and, as has been the case for all three books, the romance is extremely bland.
I’ve mentioned the romance in every single review. It’s so boring. In Graduation Day, Cia has way more chemistry with a character who isn’t her boyfriend. I don’t know if that is intentional or not, but I don’t think it is. I think the reader is supposed to like the romance, but I definitely didn’t.
Cia’s character is contradictory, with inconsistency in both her actions and beliefs, and morals/ethics.
Despite those concerns, Graduation Day is still a very enjoyable story, with a lot of tense and exciting moments. It takes a little bit to get going, but once it picks up, I read it a lot quicker. I also loved the ending. It’s a great, satisfying conclusion and made me happy.
Rated: Moderate. One or two instances of mild language. Lots of kissing, sometimes describing the intensity growing and the feelings produced, but nothing more beyond that. It gets a moderate rating for the violence. There is a lot death and killing. Injuries and wounds are described in a good amount of detail.
