Elle lives with her stepmother and twin stepsisters and misses her dad. When he was still alive, they bonded over their love for the sci-fi TV show “Starfield.” Fan conventions and cosplay were a big part of their lives. Of course, her stepmother and stepsisters think the show and its fandom are ridiculous.

When Elle finds out “Starfield” is being adapted for the big screen, she’s excited… but then angry to learn that the important role of Prince Carmindor is being filled by Darien Freeman. Darien is a typical teen heartthrob who’s famous for his looks — and Elle is sure he knows nothing about the show that means everything to her.

While she’s not eager to meet this imposter, Elle does want to enter the cosplay contest being held at ExcelsiCon. Since one of the prizes is a meet-and-greet with Darien, her stepsisters are getting involved. And it kills her to think that they’re going to intrude on a place that’s so special to her. It’s practically sacrilegious.

What she doesn’t know is that Darien is a true “Starfield” fan, and it’s his dream to play Carmindor. Now he just doesn’t want to mess it up.

As the day of the con approaches, neither knows that the other could really mean something to them and make a difference in their lives.

Geekerella is a really adorable book. All the ways that Poston fits in elements of Cinderella into this modern tale of geek fandom are cute and entertaining, and the characters are a delight. Elle gets to blossom and welcome people into her life, and Darien gets to find ways to take better charge of his life and what he wants to do with it. They unknowingly correspond with each other before they meet in person, and those interactions are sweet. None of the territory or elements are new, but it’s done with such style and charm that it’s irresistible.

Rated: Mild. (leaning a bit toward moderate) Profanity includes around 20 instances of moderate profanity, about 25 uses of mild language, and 30 instances of the name of Deity in vain. Sexual content is mostly limited to kissing.
