In The Hourglass Door, teen Abby Edmunds meets and falls in love with handsome stranger Dante and finds herself drawn into his unusual life. Dealing with the vagaries of his existence tied to the bank of the river of time wouldn’t be too challenging, except that his friends from 500 years before begin causing problems — lots of them. It’s bad enough that the power-hungry Zo wants to rip her world apart, but when he sets about unraveling time, affecting everyone in the world, it seems that all is lost.
So Abby has her work cut out for her. Can her efforts possibly match Zo’s power and ruthlessness? He starts causing serious havoc in the middle book, The Golden Spiral, and throughout most of this final novel, he still seems almost impossible to beat. But I think it’s safe to say (without spoiling the story) that Abby and Dante find ways to make love triumph over all — eventually.
It’s satisfying to see an end to the series and see how the story plays out; those who have enjoyed the series will be happy to finally see happy endings for their beloved characters — not just Abby and Dante but others who have been intricately tied in to their tale as well.
Rated: Mild, for a couple of uses of mild language and some scenes of violence that involve talk of blood.
