When twin classmates from school are abducted, Tory and her friends take it upon themselves to do their own sleuthing before it’s too late. But even as they delve deeper into solving the mystery, the Virals have other problems to face. The bonds that unite the Virals as a pack are weakening. Their powers are growing more erratic and becoming harder to control. Chance Claybourne is investigating the disastrous medical experiment that twisted their DNA, and there may even be a secret set of additional documents with far more devastating information concerning them.

As the kidnapping case heats up and their Flares get more out of control, Tory has to find a way to keep the gang together and track down a ruthless criminal before he can strike again — all while protecting their secret from prying eyes.

The stakes with the gang’s own powers are raised in Exposure, the fourth installment of the Virals series.

Tory and her friends are still coming to terms with the truths revealed in the last book, Code, and as a result, a rift opens among the group. The unresolved relationship plays a large role in this book, and it introduces a lot more drama to the plot.

I loved the concept of their powers taking a menacing turn, but a part of me is still waiting for the characters to face the consequences for their disregard of the law (especially when it comes to their continual breaking and entering). Will this come in to play in the grand finale? Only time will tell.

Rated: Moderate, for 5 milder variations of strong language, 7 uses of moderate language, 46 uses of mild language, and 5 uses of the name of Deity. Violence includes general peril. Characters enter a Wiccan store while looking for clues and receive a tarot reading. Tory and the gang frequently commit breaking and entering.
