Eccentric, retired seniors Marge Bumfuzzle and Joey Cattywampus are best friends and live across the street from each other. Though largely misunderstood and dismissed as a couple of old kooks, the unlikely pair unravel the mysteries around them in a hilarious and often touching way.
“Small-town mayhem and unlikely elderly investigators make for an original whodunit in Trouble at the Buckeye Festival by Alice Kanaka. Celebrating the spirit of adventure and mystery, regardless of age, Bumfuzzle and Cattywampus are a hugely entertaining duo at the heart of this whimsical novel. As they sleuth their way from strange festival mischief to an unexpected corpse in a closet, the stakes of their investigation keep getting higher and wilder, making this character-driven conspiracy hard to put down. Though the prose occasionally leads readers by the nose to clues and revelations, this is an undeniably fun and free-wheeling start to a new mystery series.” — editor at SPR

Note from the author:
The Bumfuzzle and Cattywampus: Unlikely Detectives series emerged from a conversation about unusual words. Marge and Joey mirror their surnames, defined by Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary as:
Bumfuzzle: Confuse, perplex, fluster. (Marge’s roundabout speech sometimes makes her almost incomprehensible.)
Cattywampus: Askew, awry, cater-cornered. (An old war injury has left Joey slightly shorter on one side of his body, causing him to tilt slightly. Although physically fit, he uses a walker to assist him with his balance.)
