Savannah Cade works at a small but proud publisher in Nashville, where the titles are all serious books. The owner has zero interest, indeed, sneers at popular books. And most definitely that includes… romance.
So while she edits horticulture books, etc., by day, she’s secretly been writing a romance book. But she hasn’t been able to get the ending right, with a really great kissing scene.
Savannah enjoys her job in many ways, but sometimes she needs a little space, especially since there are a fair number of people crammed into what was an old house. A while back, she discovered a secret room in the house-turned-publishing-office. It has a soft rug and a beanbag and shelves filled with old books. One day, she has to quickly hide her manuscript and ends up deciding to leave it in the secret room.
The next, she discovers the manuscript has been marked up in the margins. Someone else accessed the room and started reading — and making suggestions for changes to — her book! How dare they!
But when the editor to whom she had emailed her manuscript doesn’t take it for publication, Savannah has to concede that the secret reader’s comments were similar to what the editor said could be changed. So she ends up in a back-and-forth with this person, working hard on her book.
Meanwhile, she’s trying to figure out who this secret editor is. On top of that, she’s becoming interested in a new man at the office. She wants them to be the same person. But that may be impossible. Who to choose?
I’d heard a lot of good things about Meet Me in the Margins, and I learned it was made into a TV movie recently, so I figured it was time to read it. It was fun and a totally clean read, so worth my time. Not a four- or five-star read, but quick, light and enjoyable.
Rated: None. No profanity, only simple kisses. (I realized after finishing this book that it’s published by a Christian publisher; while it’s not a “Christian romance,” it is intended to be completely clean reading.)
