Ree Drummond began blogging in 2006 and has built thepioneerwoman.com into an award-winning website, where she shares recipes, showcases her photography and documents her transition from city life to ranch wife. Her cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks, is a New York Times bestseller. This new book, Black Heels, is a recounting of her romance with her chaps-wearing cowboy, from the early days of their courtship all the way through their first year of marriage.
Ree is a hilarious and intelligent writer. This memoir reads like a novel: enjoyable, fast-paced and entertaining. The story is complete with cows, manure, prairie fires, embarrassing moments and heart-melting passion. At times the constant stream of gushy romantic references to her cowboy becomes a little much, but never detracts from the overall ease of the narrative. There are many laugh-out-loud moments followed by touching, down-to-earth life observations. A fabulous read for anyone who dreams of leaving city life for the country or of finding a Wrangler-wearing cowboy.
