Two women turning 45 on the same day celebrate the occasion at a pub. One is a podcaster who’s fairly well known, accompanied by friends and family. The other is a quiet woman who rarely gets out, accompanied only by her equally quiet husband.

The latter, Josie, wants to make some big changes in her life, and she approaches Alix another day, suggesting she make her the subject of a podcast. Alix, finding Josie a bit odd but her idea still intriguing, takes her up on the suggestion.

Alix and Josie start meeting at Alix’s house, recording Josie’s accounts of her life and what she’s experienced. Alix is appalled by what Josie has been put through, concerned for her and hoping she can make the change she was hoping for. But then she starts finding out that maybe some of what she is saying may not be quite true.

At that point, however, Josie has insinuated herself into Alix’s life. Just as Josie is making Alix’s life truly uncomfortable, Josie disappears. But that doesn’t mean Alix is free of her; in fact, it’s much the opposite. Her life has turned into a true-crime scene: unfortunately, the focus of her next podcast.

None of This Is True is a gripping story, tough to put down. I read it all in one sitting. It’s like watching a train wreck: I just couldn’t turn away, as horrific as it was. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it, but if you like a twisty thriller with unsettling characters, you will enjoy this.

Rated: High. Profanity includes 35 uses of strong language, around 15 instances of moderate profanity, about 10 uses of mild language, and about 65 instances of the name of Deity in vain. About 6 uses of British (bl-) profanity. References to sex but not a lot of detail. Violence includes deaths, some description of the methods and aftermath, and blood. References to possible child abuse.
